So, if you're a Therapist Mom yearning for moments of serenity and looking to refill your cup, read on. It's time to prioritize your well-being and embark on a journey of self-discovery and rejuvenation this holiday season.

Reflective Moments

In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it's easy to get swept away by the demands of others and the flurry of festive preparations. However, taking a few moments for self-reflection can be a powerful antidote to the stress and exhaustion that may have accumulated over the year.

1. Journaling for Clarity:

Pick up a pen and let your thoughts flow onto paper. Journaling is a therapeutic practice that allows for self-expression, helping to untangle thoughts, emotions and gain clarity about personal needs and desires.

An excellent journal to put on your wish list is A Journey To Self-Care Journaling Workbook. This workbook identifies Threads of Self-Care, which are areas in life and your business that impact your self-care and vice versa. It’s a deep dive into goals, values, mindset and feelings.

2. Mindful Meditation:

Incorporate some mindfulness meditation into your daily routine. Whether it's a short guided meditation or simply focusing on the breath, these moments of stillness can provide a mental reset and create a foundation for a more centered and grounded holiday experience.

Try finding a short meditation on YouTube or your fave app and turn it on before you even get out of bed in the morning. Start each new day with this ritual.

By indulging in these reflective moments, your’re laying the groundwork for a more intentional and rejuvenating holiday break. The journey toward self-discovery begins with a pause—a moment to connect with one's inner self and recognize the importance of prioritizing personal well-being.

Spa-Inspired Escape

With the reflective foundation laid, it's time to transition into a world of self-pampering and relaxation—a spa-inspired escape within the comforts of home.

(By all means feel free to achieve this at a regular spa if you wish to do so. Maybe Santa brought you a gift card. Lucky you!)

3. Create a Tranquil Atmosphere:

Set the stage for relaxation by transforming your space into a calming sanctuary. Dim the lights, play soothing music, and consider adding aromatic candles or essential oils to create a spa-like ambiance.

4. DIY Facemasks and Skincare:

Indulge in a bit of self-care with simple and nourishing DIY facemasks. Ingredients like honey, avocado, and yogurt can work wonders, providing not only physical benefits but also a sense of luxury and care.

Try this incredible-looking DIY Coconut Oil And Honey Face Mask You only need 2 ingredients! Give it a try.

5. Soothing Baths:

I highly recommend the therapeutic power of a warm bath. Whether you prefer bath salts, bubbles, or essential oils, a long soak can ease tension, promote relaxation, and offer a moment of serenity amidst the holiday rush.

Here’s an interesting quick read about detox baths and why epsom salt baths may not be as good for us as we were told. She includes some recipes for what you could use instead. How to Take a Detox Bath.

In these spa-inspired moments, you can find solace and rejuvenation, recharging not only your body but also your spirit. By dedicating time to self-pampering, you honor the importance of self-love and recognize the need to replenish your well of energy and vitality. The holiday break becomes an opportunity to luxuriate in moments of pure bliss, fostering a renewed sense of well-being.

Nature Reconnection

Amidst the holiday hustle, it's crucial to step outside and reconnect with nature. Nature has a profound ability to heal and restore, offering a welcome reprieve from the demands of daily life.

6. Nature Walks or Hikes:

Lace up your sneakers or hiking books and hit the trail…or sidewalk. The crisp winter air, the rustle of leaves, and the beauty of a winter landscape can be invigorating, providing a much-needed change of scenery and a chance to clear the mind.

7. Winter Scenery Appreciation:

Embrace simpler moments of nature connection, like sitting by a window with a cup of tea and take in the winter scenery. The act of observing nature, even from indoors, can have calming effects and serve as a gentle reminder of life's simple pleasures.

In these nature-inspired activities, you can find a sense of grounding and renewal. Nature, with its inherent tranquility, becomes a source of inspiration and a catalyst for a rejuvenated spirit during the holiday break.

Digital Detox

In the age of constant connectivity, a digital detox is essential for mental rejuvenation. Set some boundaries and create space for mindful disconnection. You’ll thank yourself later.

8. Scheduled Screen Breaks:

Advocate for scheduled breaks from screens. Whether it's an hour each day or a full day dedicated to tech-free activities, these breaks allow for genuine connection with oneself and loved ones.

9. Social Media Moderation:

Consider moderating social media use during the holiday break. By reducing exposure to online stressors, you can create a mental space that fosters relaxation and a sense of presence.

In embracing a digital detox, you’re taking intentional steps towards reclaiming your time and mental well-being, fostering a more mindful and rejuvenating holiday experience.

Protect Your Boundaries

10. Out of Office

Set that out of office auto -response on your email and voicemail and leave work at work this holiday break. It’s easy to think we can just catch up on a few things over the break. But the more you do this, the more you’re consciously stepping back into the world that has burned you out. Give yourself a much needed and well-deserved break. Be sure to post that phone numbers for emergency services and trust that your clients will be able to get their needs taken care of over the holiday. But it’s your turn right now.

Creative Expression

Engage in creative activities as a form of self-expression and a means of rejuvenating your spirit.

11. Artistic Pursuits:

Try exploring artistic endeavors such as drawing, painting, or crafting. Creative expression can serve as a therapeutic outlet, allowing emotions to flow freely and fostering a sense of accomplishment.

12. Writing for Joy:

Use writing not only as a reflective practice but also as a source of joy. Whether it's jotting down thoughts, composing poetry, or starting a short story, the act of writing can be liberating and fulfilling.

Through these creative outlets, you can rediscover the joy of self-expression, tapping into your innate creativity and bringing a sense of vitality to your holiday break.

Quality Time with Loved Ones

The holiday season is a time for connection, and fostering meaningful relationships can be a powerful source of rejuvenation.

13. Meaningful Conversations:

Engage in meaningful conversations with loved ones. These heart-to-heart talks can provide emotional support and strengthen bonds.

14. Shared Experiences:

Create shared experiences, whether it's cooking a meal together, playing games, or enjoying a favorite holiday movie. These moments of togetherness can bring joy and fulfillment.

In prioritizing quality time with loved ones, you not only nurtures youe own well-being but also contributes to the creation of cherished holiday memories.

Mindful Movement

Physical activity is a vital component of self-care, and incorporating mindful movement can bring numerous benefits.

15. Yoga and Meditation:

Explore yoga or meditation as a way to connect with your body and mind. Online classes or guided sessions can provide gentle guidance. My personal favorite online yoga is Yoga With Bird. She has a ton of videos with easy movements and you can do it from the comfort of your own home.

16. Dance for Joy:

Use dancing as a form of joyful movement. Whether it's dancing around the living room or taking a dance class, moving the body can be a celebration of life and vitality.

Through mindful movement, you can not only boost your physical well-being but also experience a sense of joy and liberation, contributing to a holistic rejuvenation.

Relax and Indulge

In the midst of caring for others, it's essential for our Therapist Mom to indulge in small luxuries and treat herself with the kindness she so readily gives to others.

17. Cozy Reading Time:

Carve out time for cozy reading. Whether it's a novel or a collection of poetry, getting lost in a good book can be a delightful escape. *This is not the time for a self-help or work-related book. Our goal here is to leave work at work and focus on YOU. So, only a “free reading” book, as I like to call them.

18. Favorite Treats:

Go ahead!  Indulge in your favorite treats. Whether it's a cup of hot cocoa, a decadent dessert, or a savory snack, these small indulgences can bring comfort and joy.

By pampering yourself and indulging in simple pleasures, you can reaffirm the importance of self-love and create moments of pure enjoyment during the holiday break.

Water & Sleep

While this appears to be contradictory from the suggestion to indulge above, my reminder here is simply to hydrate and get plenty of sleep.

19. Water:

Can we really ever have too much? Probably not. Be sure to drink enough water, especially with all the holiday treats and cocktails you may be enjoying. Water helps your body get rid of waste among other things.

20. Plenty of Sleep:

Sleep is one of the most important things for our body and yet all I hear are moms talking about how exhausted they are and how sleep has become an issue since they became moms. Even if their kids are older and not getting up in the middle of the night, Moms are still struggling. Embrace a nap here and there. If you feel you want or need to rest, do it!

Setting Intentions for the New Year

As the holiday break unfolds, it's an opportune time for the Therapist Mom to set positive and achievable intentions for the coming year.

21. Reflect on Achievements:

Take time to reflect on the achievements of the past year. Acknowledging your accomplishments, both personally and professionally, can instill a sense of pride and motivation.

22. Identify Personal Goals:

Take some time to identify personal goals for the new year. Whether it's nurturing a hobby, prioritizing self-care, or fostering deeper connections, setting intentions can provide a roadmap for a fulfilling future.

An amazing resource for continued work on prioritizing your self-care is called Self-Care Course. It’s a companion course to the workbook mentioned above. The course will set the stage for (re)defining self-care for you as a businesswoman, entrepreneur and mother. How we did self-care  a decade ago just can’t be the same today. Join your fellow TheraMamas for support, validation and encouragement on this road to  better self-care.

In embracing these rejuvenating activities, you are able to navigate the holiday season with a renewed sense of purpose, allowing you to return to your role as a caregiver with a replenished cup and a heart ready to embrace the challenges and joys of the new year.

Embrace the Glow

As you embark on this journey of self-renewal during the holiday break, you not only tend to your own needs but you’re setting the stage for a radiant and fulfilling new year. Each moment of reflection, each indulgent act of self-care, and every shared experience with loved ones contributes to the restoration of your spirit.

In the weaving of these rejuvenating activities into your daily life, you'll find the threads of joy, resilience, and serenity seamlessly put together. The magic isn't just in the holiday decorations or the twinkling lights; it's in the intentional moments of self-love and the embrace of simple pleasures.

So, TheraMama, let this break be more than just a pause—it's a crescendo of hope, a symphony of self-discovery, and a celebration of your resilience. The replenishment of your cup isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity for the vibrant life you lead.

As you immerse yourself in these soul-nourishing activities, may you find not just rest, but a profound sense of fulfillment. May the echoes of laughter and the warmth of cherished moments linger long after the holiday season, guiding you into a new year filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.

Happy Holidays!
