Creative Outlets: Therapist Moms and the Power of Hobbies

The Blissful Journey of A Therapist

Once upon a time, there lived a woman. She was a happy woman. She had a wonderful life. She owned her own business. She had a great group of friends. She had a beautiful home that was always immaculate; some say you could even eat off the floor! She had a doting husband who brought her flowers every Tuesday. She was free to come and go as she pleased with little regard for a schedule. Often she would run errands after work or meet up with her friends for Happy Hour. Sometimes her husband would then join her out for dinner. Because why not? There was nothing to be home for. La ti da, da ti la!

Wake Up!

You were dreaming, It was only a dream…well, once upon a time it was your reality. But that isn’t your life anymore.

You’re now a Therapist. And a Mom. These days you get to feel like you barely have your life together, trying your best to manage the chaotic schedules of your professional and personal life. Self-care? What is that? Let alone prioritize…ha! You’re lucky if you get a shower in each day.

Alright, while this may be slightly dramatic…is it, though?

In today’s musing, we’ll be discussing the creative outlets that Therapist Moms can explore to unwind and rejuvenate. Let’s face it. While we’re busy taking care of everyone else, we’re neglecting ourselves. And that doesn’t make for the best Mom or Therapist. So we have to do something. Some days that requires us to turn outselves into a pretzel to get everything done and everyone to where they need to be on time. Whatever it is, we need to do it. Easier. Said. Than. Done.

Unlocking the Therapeutic Potential of Creative Outlets

Nurturing Your Inner Creativity

As Therapist Moms, we often guide others on their journey to self-discovery and self-care. What about our own journey? It's crucial to remember that we, too, need outlets for self-expression. Whether it's through painting, writing, dancing or crafting, finding a creative passion can serve as a therapeutic release.

Tips for Incorporating Creativity into Your Routine

  • Schedule Dedicated Time: Set aside specific time slots in your week dedicated solely to your chosen creative outlet. Treat it as an essential appointment for your mental well-being.

  • Experiment with Variety: Explore different creative activities to keep things fresh and exciting. You might find inspiration in unexpected places, broadening your repertoire of self-care strategies.

  • Share with Fellow Therapist Moms: Create a supportive community where Therapist Moms can exchange hobby ideas and experiences. This shared creativity can foster a sense of connection and mutual encouragement. This is a perfect reason to join the TheraMama FB group! If you’re a local Therapist Mom, join me for the events that are planned. If you’re not local, get some otherbfellow Therapist Moms together in your area and share it to the group!

Summarizing the Therapeutic Impact

Reflecting on the Journey

As we end our discussion today, let's recap the initial difficulties Therapist Moms often face: the juggling act of professional and personal responsibilities, the challenge of prioritizing self-care, and the overall strain of balancing it all. All of these can take a toll on any Therapist Mom.

The Desired Outcome – A Renewed Sense of Self

By embracing creative outlets, Therapist Moms can experience a profound transformation. The therapeutic potential of hobbies goes beyond mere relaxation; it nurtures a renewed sense of self. So much of your identity has shifted since having kids and starting your business. (You’re nameless half the time…you’re “so and so’s Mom” and colleagues might refer to you by your business name for recollection.) These outlets become the spaces where Therapist Moms can authentically connect with your creativity, finding solace and inspiration that ripples positively into every aspect of your lives.

The power of hobbies is not just about indulging in a pastime; it's about reclaiming a piece of yourself and fostering a more balanced, joyful life. Therapist Moms, let your creativity be your guide on this journey of self-discovery and self-care.
